Profile:

Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) is a private, non-profit medical school with campuses in Harlem, New York and Middletown, New York. It was founded in 2007 as a division of Touro College, a Jewish-sponsored institution that was established in 1970. TouroCOM’s mission is to educate and train competent, caring, and culturally sensitive osteopathic physicians who are dedicated to serving underserved communities.

Curriculum Highlights: TouroCOM’s curriculum places a focus on osteopathic principles and practices. Osteopathic medicine is a holistic approach to healthcare that emphasizes the interconnectedness of the body’s systems and the role of the musculoskeletal system in maintaining health. TouroCOM students receive training in osteopathic manipulative medicine, which is a hands-on approach to treating and preventing illness. They also learn about the role of nutrition, exercise, and stress management in promoting health.

TouroCOM offers a four-year Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program. The program follows a traditional medical school curriculum, with students taking courses in basic and clinical sciences, as well as completing clinical rotations. In addition to the DO program, TouroCOM also offers dual degree programs, including a DO/MBA program and a DO/MPH program. These programs allow students to combine their medical training with business or public health coursework.

TouroCOM has a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, and actively recruits students from underrepresented groups in medicine. The school has a number of programs and initiatives in place to support diversity, including the TouroCOM Diversity and Inclusion Council, the Student National Medical Association, and the Association of Women in Medicine. TouroCOM also has partnerships with organizations that support diversity in healthcare, such as the National Medical Association and the Hispanic Medical Association.

TouroCOM is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. It is also a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine.

In addition to its academic programs, TouroCOM is involved in a number of research initiatives and partnerships. The school has research centers focused on areas such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. TouroCOM also partners with hospitals and clinics throughout the region, providing students with opportunities to gain clinical experience.
