UC SoM’s mission is to educate and train the next generation of healthcare professionals while also conducting research and providing patient care.
Curriculum Highlights: One unique aspect of UC SoM’s curriculum is its emphasis on experiential learning. This means that students have the opportunity to learn through hands-on experiences, such as clinical rotations, research projects, and service learning projects. UC SoM also has a strong focus on interprofessional education, with students from different healthcare professions learning and working together in order to better understand and collaborate with each other in their future careers.
UC SoM offers a four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, as well as dual degree programs, including an MD/MBA program and an MD/MPH program. The MD program follows a traditional medical school curriculum, with students taking courses in basic and clinical sciences, as well as completing clinical rotations. The dual degree programs allow students to combine their medical training with business or public health coursework.
UC SoM is home to a number of research centers and institutes, including the UC Cancer Institute, the UC Diabetes and Obesity Center, and the UC Heart, Lung, and Vascular Institute. These centers conduct research on a variety of health-related topics and provide opportunities for students to get involved in research projects. UC SoM also has partnerships with hospitals and clinics throughout the region, providing students with clinical experience.
Another unique aspect of UC SoM is its commitment to diversity and inclusion. The school has a number of programs and initiatives in place to support underrepresented groups, including the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Student National Medical Association, and the Student Osteopathic Medical Association. UC SoM also has partnerships with organizations that support diversity in healthcare, such as the National Medical Association and the Association of American Indian Physicians.
